One of life’s great gifts is reconnecting with long-lost friends. Pat is a very funny comedian that I knew “back in the day.” {And by that, I mean I knew him before he wrote for The Tonight Show and Seinfeld – heck, he opened for Jerry last week!} Continue Reading →

“Heavenly” Applesauce Cake
This recipe was actually published over a year ago, but I’m sharing it again for three reasons:
First, I’ve made it 3 times in the past week – for several families in various types of distress… one of my dearest friend’s dad just passed away, another friend is waiting for a heart transplant, and yet another is waiting on test results from specialists. Whether accompanying a meal or delivered on its own, this cake has been a hit every time. And it’s so easy, I thought you might like it in your repertoire as well. Continue Reading →
{Naughty Alert!} Cinnamon Swirl Bread
One of the things I love about our annual vacation in Idaho is that I can start each day at my own pace. And that usually means quietly enjoying a cup of black coffee and a piece of toast. {Contrary to popular opinion, I’m a simple gal.}
This year though, the toast was anything but ordinary. I’ve already shared how generous some of my new girlfriends from the ranch are, having shared the fruits {well, vegetables} of their gardening labors.

Creme Brûlée French Toast {a.k.a.The Miracle}
This Creme Brulee French Toast recipe is one you pull out when you need the heavy ammo. For example, let’s say you’re asked to make breakfast for teenagers, but you forgot to have children of your own, so you have no idea what they eat. Except that they eat a lot. OK, we’re talking about me.
Anyhooo… we were joining friends at their cabin for the 4th of July a few years ago. The kids greatly outnumbered the adults, and the couples split up cooking duties. I drew breakfast. This was no time for experimentation – I had to launch a missile! After all, we wanted to be invited back!

Poppy Seed Cake
You’ve just been assigned “dessert” for a dinner party. Or, in a weak moment, you signed up to bring something sweet to your office pot-luck. If the thought fills you with dread, fear not!
Resist the urge to stop by Costco and get a pie-on-steroids, or those ubiquitous brownie bites. Instead, make this super easy, delicious Poppy Seed Cake.

{Throwback Thursday} Magic Marshmallow Puffs
This one comes with a guarantee… these little pockets of naughty won’t last long in your house!
And… I should say right up front that this is an exception to my typically healthy repertoire.
Years ago, I had moved into this cool warehouse apartment – great for entertaining. But one of brothers asked why I just didn’t make the kitchen into a library or something, since my “talents” didn’t land me anywhere near a kitchen. There was one thing I could make. Magic Marshmallow Puffs. While I know they aren’t the reason Husband married me, I can safely say these kept him interested!
It’s beginning to taste a lot like Christmas…
I don’t remember a Christmas morning without one of these Cinnamon Twist Coffee Cakes baking while we opened our gifts. With two older brothers, it was pretty much devoured within minutes of coming out of the oven. Several years ago, I started making these for a few neighborhood friends. Since a recipe makes 4 cakes, I’d double it to ensure that Husband and I had 2 left for ourselves — one for Christmas morning, and one for New Year’s morning. Continue Reading →
