Most of the recipes I post here are tweaked versions of someone else’s creativity. But this one is the result of several kitchen experiments! I was trying to replicate a super-expensive packaged nut butter that was costing me an embarrassing amount to order and have shipped. I have to say… my Power Nut Butter is better. It’s full of good-for-you seeds and nuts (and no preservatives), and it’s far less expensive! Continue Reading →

Almond Biscotti with Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt (Gluten Free!)
The older Husband and I get, the more we’re into routines. If one or both of us are traveling, we FaceTime at the end of the day. We don’t discuss our thoughts on a movie we’ve seen, until we have a post-movie snack and maybe a nightcap. We typically go to church on Saturday nights, after which we can be found at our favorite Mexican restaurant – in our usual spot, with our usual order. And on Sunday mornings, our ritual includes coffee and watching CBS Sunday Morning. We’ve recently taken that routine up a notch, thanks to Almond Biscotti with Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt. Dark Chocolate Energy Bites
I just grabbed one of these Dark Chocolate Energy Bites as a reward for going to the mailbox — it’s around -50º below zero with windchill!
Truth be told, we weren’t supposed to BE in the frozen tundra today. We had been invited to join a group of dear friends this week in Mexico — where, by my calculations, there’s about a 135º temperature difference at the moment. Continue Reading →
Your new favorite “nightcap” :: Golden Milk
Sometimes, even the best of relationships benefit from taking a break. “P.N.” and I hadn’t been getting along, and I felt the need to create some space. We’re still friends though – in fact, we spent some time together last weekend. Continue Reading →
Nutty Granola Bars {These are for you, Donny Osmond!}
I’m a little bit country
And I’m a little bit rock ‘n roll
I’m a little bit of Memphis and Nashville
With a little bit of Motown in my soul
I don’t know if it’s good or bad but I know I love it so
I’m a little bit country, I’m a little bit rock ‘n roll…
My 70’s crush on Donny Osmond made me want to be a little country to his “rock ‘n roll.” I knew every cheesy dance move to the song, and daydreamed about taking Marie’s place, if say, she called in sick or fell off the stage. Never mind that I couldn’t sing. {Why yes, I was a huge nerd. How did you know?!?}
Regardless of whether or not you enjoyed the song, the lyrics definitely reinforced the belief that opposites attract.
Almond, Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt Cookies {plus BIG Giveaway!}
My two worlds have collided – and I couldn’t be more excited! My “day job” in the music industry means I get to work with radio stations and artists across the country… I love my job! And, of course, I love playing in my Raisin & Fig “sandbox.” Today, I get to introduce you to the husband-and-wife team that make up the band Love & The Outcome.
{Make Your Own} Almond Milk
Don’t worry, I’m not going all Euell Gibbons on you. (What, you’re too young for that reference? Lucky you… !)
Anyway, if you listen to the “experts” you’ll hear that dairy is good, then… dairy is bad! Soy is good, soy is bad! Who can keep up?!
(Thankfully, there seems to be pretty consistent praise for red wine and dark chocolate – in moderation of course. But I digress… again.)
Dairy and voice-over work don’t go well together — at least for me. So lately, I’ve been using almond milk instead of dairy or soy.
I love it, and use it in anything that calls for regular milk. But one look at ingredient list on the package and I quickly run out of words I can pronounce. I had heard how easy (and economical and “green”) it is to make your own without all the additives and preservatives. I’m always up for a fun food experiment!
